How are you cooling them down?  Sometimes mine crack when I'm in a hurry and put them in the freezer too long to cool.  But they ususally crack around the whole candle, not just on the top by the wick. 

You can smooth them out by putting them on a cookie sheet and setting them in the oven for just a minute to reset the tops.  I usually use my heat tool (heat gun) that I use for embossing with rubber stamp projects to touch up the tops of my candles sometimes.  I usually do the container candles and when I disturb the wicks, then I have to touch them up a bit.  It works like magic!

P.S.  Don't you love the Brookstone oils?  The apple crumb cake is great!
