My candles have a big dip in the middle...

Help!  I'm new at this candle stuff.  When my candles cool, I get a big hole in the center around the wick.  How can I stop this from happening?  What did I do wrong?!!!

You are using the wrong wax!!!  If you are doing candles in a jar, you need the container wax.  If you are making molded candles, then you will have to save some hot wax to pour in the dip in the middle.  It happens all the time.  Just one of the things about hard wax that can't be fixed.

I've heard that if you put your candles (finished) in a hot water bath and let them cool in it, it will help, but I've never tried it.  I just pour more in the hole when it cools.  Good Luck!

What is happing is when the wax starts to get hard it gets to heavy, and starts to sink in to the soft hot wax. So you mite want to try is mixing a something with it, so the cooling is slower. What i do is mix the hard wax with Crisco or shortening. 50/50 does the trick for me. But you can play around with adding more or not as much untill you get what you want, also it is cheeper than buying a lot of wax that you do not need. It burns real nice and clean also grabs and holds sents a lot better if you like to add smells to your Candles. Well that is what i do to fix the sinking dip in the Candles, you can try it if you like hope it helps.

I am new to candlemaking, but about the crisco, is that like adding soy to the wax, would this do the same thing?  Has anyone tried mixing soy and regular wax together.  Will it make the mottling go away?
